Dental Care

Dental care for Northwood's pets, from independent vets who know every patient by name.

Pets are very good at hiding a sore mouth. Most will keep eating and playing long after a problem has started, which is why regular dental checks matter so much.

When Punit and Priya launched Fauna Vets, their aim was a practice where we could always do what we believe is best for our patients, with no caveats or competing interests.

For teeth, that means catching problems early, treating them properly and always being clear with you about what we're recommending and why.

Signs to look out for

Is your pet's mouth trying to tell you something?

Keep an eye out for:

  • bad breath

  • red or bleeding gums

  • brown build-up on the teeth

  • dropping food or chewing on one side

  • pawing at the mouth or face

  • going off hard food or treats

If you notice any of these, book in for a check. It's always better to take a look sooner rather than later.

What to expect

  • A check with one of our vets

We'll take a proper look at your pet's teeth and gums, talk you through what we find and let you know if any treatment is needed.

  • A clear plan

We are always clear about treatment options and costs. We talk everything through so you know exactly what we're recommending and why – and you'll never feel rushed into a decision.

  • Treatment and recovery

If your pet needs a dental procedure, it's carried out under general anaesthetic and includes, for example, dental x-rays, a scale and polish and extractions where needed. We monitor every patient closely before, during and after, and our nurses are watching too.

Equipment

The right kit for the job

Being independent means we can move fast, so when new technology comes along that we think our patients will benefit from, we don't think twice.

  • Digital dental x-rays

Our handheld dental x-ray machine gives us detailed images of a patient's mouth whatever their size, breed or species. It shows us far more than the eye alone ever could, so dental problems get picked up and treated properly.

  • Dental equipment

We invest in the sharpest, most modern dental tools we can and replace them regularly. That means quicker, gentler procedures and a more comfortable recovery for your pet.

Comfort and care

Calm from the moment you arrive

Our practice has been carefully designed to make every visit as smooth and stress-free as possible. We've installed a special soft floor for arthritic patients and we play classical music to keep patients calm in our cat wards.

It's the kind of small detail that comes from being independent. And your special friend will always get a belly rub on the way out.
